The physicians at Proliance Retina are recognized as leaders in the diagnosis and treatment in conditions of the retina, macula and vitreous, including Intraocular Injections.
What are Intraocular Injections?
Intraocular injections of new medicines have revolutionized the treatment of many of the most common forms of blindness, including Wet Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Diabetic Retinopahy, and Retinal Vein Occlusions. While these procedures are relatively straight forward, our retina fellowship trained physicians are best equipped to know when to start therapy, when to stop it, when to change to different medicines or use alternatives to augment the injections. In addition to this knowledge, the doctors at Proliance Retina, have taken part in most of the cutting edge research that led to these innovations.
Do Intraocular Injections Hurt?
The idea of an injection in your eye sounds scary at first, but the doctors and staff at Proliance Retina have perfected the process over years of practice. As a result, we have learned to individualize the procedure for each patient to maximize their comfort and maintain safety. So if you are already receiving injections and having difficulty tolerating them, it is likely that our doctors can develop a plan to minimize the discomfort and anxiety associated with this therapy.
Are Intraocular Injections Safe?
As it comes to safety surrounding intraocular injections, every procedure has potential complications. Fortunately the rates of serious complications for these procedures are very low (less than 1 in 2000 procedures.) When one of these complications does occur, we are equipped to handle it in house and are available 24/7 to answer patient concerns and treat these complications if necessary. As a result, we are also commonly called upon to treat complications arising from injections given by other physicians.
